For the following assignment, we will be constructing a unique database application that sheds light on the latest results of the 2012 summer Olympic games. Held in London, the 2012 Olympic served as an international competition, pitting the best and brightest of every country's top athletes against one another for healthy competition. The Olympic contain a wide variety of unique sports, and grant three medals (gold, silver, and bronze) to top performers in all compete-able categories.
Our proposed application will take data from the 2012 Olympic and present the results of each specific country and their top athletes upon request. For example, if you search “Michael Phelps,” you will receive the athlete’s country, competed categories, and medal received in each given category.
To accomplish this project, we will begin by collecting data on the top 30 most viewed Olympic sport categories, and follow-up with this research by locating the medals awarded for each of those categories. All of the information will be sorted in Excel, and then translated to a SQL database. Following this we will construct a website using HTML, and accompany the data presented with visually pre-rendered charts on the data.
